Hey guys I have been having nothing but problems with my internet connection lately. There have been numerous times where I just had no connection for a couple hours and the biggest problem is when both my roommate and I are trying to stream HD video at the same time, it lags like a bitch.

Especially if he's trying to watch one of Husky's casts in 720p and I'm playing CS... my ping goes ballistic to like 200+.

We both have gigabit cards in our machines and the router is gigabit certified, so I'm wondering if it's my modem or Comcast just fucking up? I'm renting a modem from them (lulz) cause I'm too fucking lazy to drive across town and drop it off and spend time on the phone with them making sure a new modem is activated. But if that's the case, I might just have to.

Looking at getting a DOCSIS 3.0 modem but I'm not too sure, since I don't have BLAZING fast package to begin with should I just stick with DOCSIS 2.0?

I would suggest upgrading to a DOCSIS 3.0 modem regardless, if anything it's better then your old one. Check your router settings, make sure your wireless connection is password protected don't want anyone and everyone in the neighborhood leeching your wireless connection. I normally reboot and reset my router whenever my internet connection goes down (not frequent issue). Reboot the modem too, keep your PC off and disconnected from the router when you do a reboot and reset. My guess is either its a cable issue or comcast internet service if the reboot/reset methods don't help.

i got a feeling it is your ISP. every so often your ISP has to renew your DNS License for a certain time period. sounds like its not getting auto renew cause it is having a hard time connecting to there database. i would call and put in a ticket and have them check the lines at your house and when the tech guy gets out there, tell him your internet is having a hard time auto renewing the DNS License.

if you're doing anything else on the internet it's going to affect your ping. ya streaming video definitely counts. the gigabit you mention is simply for your internal network and should never limit you. take a look at a gaming router or check if your current one has some kind of QOS system. these can help a lot but for the most part tell him to stop streaming when you're gaming. :D
